Marc Friedenberg, Congressional Candidate in the 12th District, released a statement on the closure of Wood-Mode in Kreamer:
“My heart goes out to the employees and their families during this difficult time. The challenge now is to find a path forward for the community, and find ways to support Wood-Mode workers, through job training and other opportunities.
“There are reports these employees did not receive the required warning before the closure. This is unacceptable. The company has legal obligations to its employees in situations like this. They deserve better treatment for all their years of dedicated service. That a company with more than 1000 employees can shut down and terminate its employees contracts with only thirty minutes notice, shows me that we need more protections for workers. They should be granted the respect and dignity that all hard-working Americans deserve.
“We as a nation must do better than this. Our middle class is being systematically dismantled by businesses that refuse to consider the impact of their decisions on workers.
“It is time we look for new ways to operate our businesses and government so they work for the people and not just a select few.”
