We did it. Thank you to the voters who believed in me, and took the time out of their busy lives to go cast their vote for me. It would be the honor of a lifetime to serve you in Washington.
Thank you to the volunteers—more than a hundred of you—who donated your time and talent to make this campaign a success. Thank you to my campaign committee, my team, and everyone who helped us by putting up a yard sign, collecting petition signatures, or handing out literature. This has been a true grassroots campaign, with no corporate or PAC donations, and we couldn’t have done it without you.
Thank you to Judy Herschel for running a positive campaign that allowed us to focus on the issues and engage with voters about the things that really matter. You and your team worked incredibly hard, and it was an honor to compete with you for this nomination. You deserve a lot of credit for the rebirth of Democratic politics in our district, and I know you will continue to fight hard for the most vulnerable members of our communities.
And most of all, thank you to my wonderful wife Becky and my daughters, Claire and Molly, for allowing me to take on this challenge, even though it meant so many nights away on the campaign trail. I’ll need your support even more in the months ahead, and I know I’ll have it.
This is a time for big ideas. This is a time to confront problems head-on and to declare, as Americans, that the representation we’ve been getting in Congress just isn’t good enough. Special interests—Big Pharma, Wall Street, and mega-wealthy donors—are trying to hijack our federal government so that it works for them, not for us. We fight back, starting today.
Thank you again for your faith in me. I won’t let you down.
